Edward Leslie, best known as WWE Superstar Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake is reportedly facing major health problems and his wife Missy Leslie has posted a plea on Facebook for fans to pray for his recovery.
While she didn’t offer any exact details she said that Beefcake’s blood pressure was 170/110 and he was suffering from shortness of breath and a headache.
Beefcake, a close friend of ring legend Hulk Hogan, is remembered for bringing a giant pair of gardening shears into the ring after a win and chopping off chunks of the losing wrester’s hair.
His wrestling career was put on hold in 1990 after a freak parasailing accident that left him with smashed facial bones. Over 100 feet of wire and 32 screws were required to construct Beefcake’s new face
Against medical advice, he returned to WWF Prime Time Wrestling, in 1991. Then, after another short break, he re-teamed with Hulk Hogan as The Mega-Maniacs. For many of his matches, he wore a protective face mask as part of his costume.
He wrestled under a variety of other names during the Nineties, including The Man with No Name and The Zodiac.
Most memorably, he wrestled for a while under the name The Booty Man, acting as a man who was for some reason obsessed with his own buttocks, shaking them on the way to the ring and during pauses in matches.
In February 2004, he notoriously sparked an anthrax scare at a Boston subway station by leaving a large bag of cocaine in view of passengers who mistook it for the deadly poison.
He later checked into a rehab facility to kick his drug habit.
During a recent appearance on The Wrestling Inc. Daily, the WWE Hall of Famer told a memorable anecdote about rival wrestlers The Nasty boys, saying, "the Nasty Boys were in London and Saggs or Knobbs let out a big fart in a dressing room or wherever they were at with Randy Savage and Elizabeth.
"And Randy put Elizabeth on an airplane and sent her home," he added.
"Vince still wanted her back so WWE chartered a Concorde to fly her back there.
"Since that cost like 5 or 10 grand, the Nasty Boys were forced to pay for it themselves. They called it the fart heard around the world."
Beefcake was booked to take part in exhibition matches as recently as June 12 and is still recording shout-outs for fans on Cameo.
