Train worker stabbed by teenager after asking him for ticket

A teenage boy has been arrested after a railway worker was allegedly assaulted at a train station.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident at Bromley South station in southeast London on Bank Holiday Monday.

Officers were called to the scene at 1.09pm on Monday, May 31, MyLondon repots.

The station has been evacuated while police deal with the incident.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman confirmed that a staff member was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a statement, the force said: "British Transport Police were called at 1:09pm, 31 May, to Bromley South station following a report that a member of railway staff had been assaulted.

"Officers are in attendance and a teenage boy has been arrested.

"A member of staff has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

According to a statement posted by South Eastern Railway on Twitter, services have been postponed and will not be resuming "until further notice".

Passengers travelling between Beckenham Junction and Swanley will be able to use tickets on London buses.

Station operators said the station will be exit only until police work is completed.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Southeastern Railway confirmed the station is still exit only.

It said it would be likely to reopen at 6pm this evening.

The company tweeted: "£BromleySouth is exit only to allow police to safely complete their work at the station following an incident earlier.

"Passengers travelling from Bromley South will need to use local buses to get to an alternative station.

"We expect this to go on until at least 18:00.”

Thameslink tweeted: "The police are dealing with an incident at Bromley South which means the station is exit only at the moment.

"Please avoid travel from the station until further notice."
