‘Thousands of sex abuse videos’ and rape footage shown to kids on adult websites

Adult streaming giant Pornhub is among a glut of porn sites bombarding users including children with sexually violent videos, according to a British study published today.

The landmark report conducted by the British Journal of Criminology says kids can access clips showing violence against women and rape acts for free online and without having to prove their age, reports The Times.

An investigation of 131,738 videos on the homepages of popular porn hangouts Pornhub, XHamster and XVideos found that one in eight showed non-consensual or incestuous acts, which worryingly included people described as drugged, unconscious or "very young".

Pornhub's Premium service was made free for all Brits last year in a desperate bid to keep people inside during the coronavirus lockdown.

Research separate to today's report has previously found there has been a sharp increase in young people looking at porn, with teens saying they had witnessed disturbing pornography, reports The Sun.

For this investigation, researchers at Durham University found anyone who visited the homepages could immediately access the alarming videos – despite it going against the companies' policy.

They said: "It is not the case that criminal material is relegated to niche sites, hidden from all but a determined viewer, or only available on the dark web."

Clare McGlynn QC, a professor of law at Durham who co-authored the study, said: "It’s shocking that this is the material that the porn companies themselves are choosing to showcase to first-time users.

"Our findings raise serious questions about the extent of criminal material easily and freely available on mainstream porn websites and the efficacy of current regulatory mechanisms."

Pornhub, however, disagreed with the report, saying all content on its website depicted "consensual kinks".

A spokesman said: "Consenting adults are entitled to their own sexual preferences, as long as they are legal and consensual, and all kinks that meet these criteria are welcome on Pornhub."

The company said any suggestion it allowed illegal content was "categorically and factually inaccurate".
