A 19-year-old lad sparked a huge debate over relationship age gaps after he shared a video of himself proposing to a woman who is 57 years older than him.

Giuseppe D'Anna shared the news of his engagement with his TikTok followers on May 24 with a romantic compilation video of photographs of the proposal.

In one of the photos, Giuseppe is seen holding a bunch of balloon hearts, as he got down on one knee for his beaming fiancée.

Another photo shows him leaning down to kiss her, which was followed by more images of the pair together in a mirror, next to a fountain and by the poolside.

The video has more than 100,000 views, 1,600 likes and 150 comments – but not all of their TikTok viewers congratulated the soon-to-be-married couple.

But it wasn't the way Giuseppe proposed that some followers had an issue with.

Many actually had a problem with the fact that Giuseppe's fiancée is 76 years old.

One said: "Imagine someone saying is that your mother?!?"

A third commented: "Nope that's enough internet for today."

But others congratulated the couple on their announcement, with one user writing: "It is wonderful what you do because, in any case, it is true that love has no age."

Another added: "Jesus loves you guys."

However, some of Giuseppe's followers pointed out that the 19-year-old actually calls his partner his "grandmother" in his older videos.

The news comes after a couple with a 28-year age gap has defended their relationship as they married just three months after meeting on YouTube.

Sarah Henderson, 26, met 54-year-old Darin during the coronavirus pandemic in October 2020 as the pair hit it off instantly.

Their conversation began when pet expert Darin saw a comment from Sarah on a video online but neither of them had been looking for a relationship at the time, their friendship soon turned into something a little more.

The pair met in person for the first time in November 2020, then by the following January, the couple were engaged.

Sarah popped the question and the lovebirds tied the knot that same month in 2021.
