Sarah Everard’s twisted killer Wayne Couzens appeals life sentence for murder

Wayne Couzens is now seeking permission to appeal against his whole-life term for the murder of Sarah Everard.

The twisted Met Police officer used Covid powers to falsely arrest 33-year-old Sarah as she walked home on her own from a friend's house in March.

He was handed a whole-life sentence at the Old Bailey last month, The Mirror reports.

Lord Justice Fulford said Couzens "used his position as a police officer" to kidnap Sarah in Clapham, South London.

"We have been notified that an appeal has been lodged by Mr Couzens," a court official said on Tuesday.

If the permission is granted the case will be heard by the Court of Appeal Criminal Division.

Couzens, 48, pleaded guilty to the horrific kidnap, rape and murder of Sarah.

He is one of over 60 criminals serving whole-life sentences.

The sentences are reserved for the most serious crimes such as politically motivated murders and serial killings,

Couzens joins infamous killers such as police officer killer Dale Cregan and Mark Bridger, who murdered five-year-old April Jones and Lee Rigby's murderer Michael Adebolajo.

Lord Justice Fulford said by misusing his police role to kidnap, rape and murder Sarah, his crime was "of equal seriousness as a murder carried out for the purpose of advancing a political, religious, racial or ideological cause".

It was last month reported that Wayne Couzens was being held in a single cell under suicide watch with high security at Belmarsh.

The rapist and murder is in the Special Secure Unit which houses 18 men in single cells, where he was being watched to ensure he doesn't pose a risk to himself, it was claimed.

Couzens, who will die behind bars after being sentenced to a whole life order, used his warrant card to lure the marketing executive who was on her way home after dinner with a friend, under the pretence of breaching Covid guidelines.
