Rapper Nines arrested on cocaine charges after police drug sting

A famous London rapper has been charged with intent to supply both cocaine and cannabis, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

Nines, a rapper who has had mainstream success is signed to major labels, was arrested on Thursday, June 3.

The rapper, real name Courtney Freckleton, 31 of Barbican, EC2, was arrested alongside Jason Thompson, 35, of Forham Road, Barnet, police have said.

Met Police said in a statement on Friday, June 4, that the arrest was made after warrants were carried out across addresses in London and Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

The pair have both been charged with conspiracy to import a controlled Class B drug with intent to evade a prohibition / restriction between 10 March 2020 and 3 July 2020; Conspiracy to supply a Class A controlled drug (cocaine); Conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug (cannabis), and conspiracy to conceal / disguise / convert / transfer / remove criminal property.

A statement on the Metropolitan Police website said: "Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have charged two men after a proactive operation to tackle the supply of drugs.

"Courtney Freckleton, 31 (17.01.90) of Barbican, EC2 and Jason Thompson, 35 (24.04.86) of Forham Road, Barnet have been charged with:

  • Conspiracy to import a controlled Class B drug with intent to evade a prohibition / restriction between 10 March 2020 and 3 July 2020;
  • Conspiracy to supply a Class A controlled drug (cocaine);
  • Conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug (cannabis);
  • Conspiracy to conceal / disguise / convert / transfer / remove criminal property.

"They are due to attend Willesden Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 4."

Nines released his debut album One Foot Out back in 2017, which charted in the top 4 of the UK Albums Chart.

The rapper has also branched out into film-making and released the short Crop Circles before releasing an album carrying the same name.

His debut mixtape From Church Road to Hollywood hit the rap underworld nine years ago. His latest full-length record, Crabs in a Bucket, was released in 2018.
