Littleton police say that a pipe bomb was found in the area of South Broadway and West Mineral Avenue. It has been disabled and is no longer a threat.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad checked the device, which was found near a Safeway store, police said in a 1:11 p.m. tweet. There is a heavy police presence in the area.
The Safeway remains open, police said in a 2:03 p.m. tweet, and “the scene is secure and there is no danger to the public as the team investigates.”
At 2:37 p.m. police announced: “It was determined that it was an actual pipe bomb. The device has been disabled and there is no longer a threat.”
An investigation is ongoing.
