A newborn baby boy was found wrapped in a blanket in a park.

Police have launched a desperate search for the missing mum after the infant was discovered in Birmingham on Thursday afternoon.

The discovery was made in a community park, known locally as The Mound, in the Kings Norton area of the city.

A resident found the little boy, who was taken to hospital to be checked over.

Medics are currently caring for the baby.

West Midlands Police says officers are extremely concerned for the mum's welfare and are trawling through CCTV from the area in the hope of finding her.

She is their "absolute priority at the moment", detectives said.

The force says she may need urgent medical attention and is urging anyone with information about where she is to come forward.

Detective Inspector Allan Green said: “The baby is being cared for by medical staff and our priority is to now find mum and make sure she is okay.
