Prince Harry’s friends have remained quiet over his royal rift but Meghan Markle’s have spoken out because the Duke shares friends with Prince William, it has been claimed.

Meghan and Harry’s sit down interview with Oprah Winfrey shocked the world, forcing the Duchess of Sussex’s former Suits stars to come to her defence, as well as long-term friend Jessica Mulroney.

Kim Kardashian's friend Chrissy Teigan defended the Duchess, calling her kind and "really wonderful."

But Harry’s pals have done little to defend him publicly and an author claims it is because Royal circles are so close-knit that Prince William shares the same friends as him.

Writing in Vanity Fair, author Michelle Ruiz claimed Harry's "circle has remained quiet."

Mr Ruiz said: "While friends of Meghan, including Jessica Mulroney and Lindsay Roth, have spoken out in her defence, many in Harry’s circle have remained quiet because they’re friends with both princes."

Prince Harry's friend and former British Army training partner, Dean Stott, added that the pals wound't have been able to "go against one or the other."

Mr Scott told Vanity Fair: "You can’t go against one or the other."

The silence is unusual as Harry's friends have jumped to the Duke's defence in the past, including Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras, who Harry has been pictured with before.

Mr Figueras told Hello! US magazine: "I can say that I’m very happy for him. If he’s happy, I’m happy. He’s a guy that I like very much and he deserves the best."

In contrast, Meghan’s friends, including tennis ace Serena Williams who attended the Duchess’ baby shower, have spoken openly in support of her.

Following the couple’s bombshell Oprah interview, Serena said Meghan is a "selfless" friend who "teaches" her "every day what it means to be truly noble".

Prior to the Oprah interview, Martyn Compton, Harry's former Army comrade, told The Sun: "As Prince Harry ’s friend and someone who has served alongside him, I’m shocked and amazed it’s all come to this."
