The 8’2 Sesame Street character said: “I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! “My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy.”
“Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!”
The 46th President congratulating the bird in a tweet: “Good on ya, @BigBird.
“Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep your whole neighborhood safe.”
Big Bird has a history of promoting vaccines and also encouraged children to get vaccinated against measles in 1972.
In a message in the 1970s the Sesame Street character said: “Don’t wait, vaccinate.”
President Biden has called this a “turning point” in the pandemic.
He said: “It will allow parents to end months of anxious worrying about their kids, and reduce the extent to which children spread the virus to others.
“It is a major step forward for our nation in our fight to defeat the virus.”

Dr Amanda Cohn, a paediatric vaccine expert at the CDC and member of the FDA panel, said Covid “is the eighth highest killer of kids in this age group over the past year.”
“Use of this vaccine will prevent deaths, will prevent ICU admissions and will prevent significant long-term adverse outcomes in children.”
