Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon closed on Saturday afternoon as a safety precaution as a flash flood warning was posted for the Grizzly Creek burn scar area.
The highway’s eastbound and westbound lanes are shut down from Exit 116, Glenwood Springs, to Exit 133, Dotsero, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
At about 3 p.m. the National Weather Service in Boulder issued a flash flood warning for the area, including western Eagle County and eastern Garfield County. The warning is posted through 5 p.m.
Rain up to a half-inch to an inch in an hour span is expected. The downpour could trigger a flash flood carrying rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. The flash floods in the area could be life threatening, the weather service said.
