Elon Musk has been praised after revealing he has Asperger's while hosting Saturday Night Live.
The eccentric tech and space billionaire introduced himself as the first person with the form of autism to front the US TV comedy show, hinting that's why he smoked cannabis on Joe Rogan's podcast.
The self-styled techno-king of Tesla, 49, said: "It's great to be hosting Saturday Night Live, and I really mean it.
"Sometimes after I say something, I have to say that I mean it. That’s because I don’t always have a lot of iteration or variation in how I speak. Which I’m told makes for great comedy.”
He then revealed: “I’m actually making history tonight as the first person with Asperger’s [Syndrome] to host SNL.
“Or at least the first to admit it. So I won’t make a lot of eye contact with the cast tonight. But don't worry, I'm pretty good at running 'human' in emulation mode.”
He added: "Look, I know I sometimes say or post strange things, but that's just how my brain works.
"To anyone who's been offended, I just want to say I reinvented electric cars, and I'm sending people to Mars in a rocket ship. Did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?

“A lot of times, people are reduced to the dumbest thing they ever did. Like one time I smoked weed on Joe Rogan’s podcast. And now all the time I hear ‘Elon Musk, all he ever does is smoke weed on podcasts’.
"Like I go from podcast to podcast, lighting up joints. It happened once, it’s like reducing OJ Simpson to murderer.”
Musk introduced his mother, model Maye Musk, during the show which was live-streamed across the world on YouTube.
She came on stage to talk about what he was like when he was 12 and said she was excited for her mother's Day Gift, quipping: "It just hope it's not dogecoin."

Her son – who has dubbed himself the "Dogefather" while backing the digital currency which started off as a joke meme on Twitter – replied: “It is!”
The cryptocurrency's value fell off a cliff during the show – ending up down by about 12% from late Friday – as he called it a "hustle" in a bid to explain what it was.
The UK's National Autism Society says that people with Asperger's can find it harder "in particular, understanding and relating to other people, and taking part in everyday family, school, work and social life".

Comedian and Saturday Night Live alumni Dan Aykroyd, who hosted in 2003, has also spoken in the past about being diagnosed with a mild form of Asperger's.
Twitter users praised Musk for his revelation, one saying: “As someone who has Asperger's, hearing Elon proudly speak about his neurological condition in his opening remark is very inspiring.
“Tackling every industry by storm, from the advent of the electric vehicle; to colonizing other worlds. @elonmusk is one hell of a human being!”
