The White House is putting the First Lady on television as part of an organised campaign of PSAs on covid-19 that will override media organisations that the US President usually brands as “fake news”. Melania will reportedly be joined by US health officials on the PSAs.
According to The White House, their work will “appear in national broadcast PSAs that communicate the most important ways Americans can protect themselves and those most at risk”.
Other people who will be taking part include Surgeon General Jerome Adams, infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci, and Dr Deborah Birx, who coordinates the coronavirus task force.
The health officials often join US President Donald Trump at press briefings.
Trump has been advising the public on how to stay safe in his recent announcements.
He has told people to wash their hands regularly, stay away from public spaces such as bars and restaurants and take part in “social isolation”.
Dr Fauci is a medical expert who has appeared on television before to explain medical issues to the nation.
Other First Ladies in the past have been known to appear in PSAs.
Former FLOTUS Michelle Obama did one PSA to encourage people to vote.
NBCUniversal – the network that launched Trump’s show ‘The Apprentice – will be joining the effort.
The White House added: “Other Administration officials will NBCUniversal will create a series of videos and graphics, available in both English and Spanish, to inform high-risk populations about the steps they can take to protect themselves and to inform the public how to help stop of the spread of coronavirus.”
ViacomCBS will also be “leveraging its portfolio of brands to deliver multi-channel, multi-platform PSA campaigns that educate audiences around public health imperatives related to COVID-19.”
ABC/Walt Disney Television will also put out messages for parents and families.

Meanwhile, iHeartMedia will focus on social distancing and high-risk populations.
The airtime is donated by the networks and other entities.
The media will be coordinated by the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump is currently at home in self isolation due to contact with a foreign official who tested positive for the virus.
Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner are both White House senior advisers.
Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have been two of the main faces responding to the crisis in the US.
The President has appeared at press conferences three days in a row at the White House as the coronavirus pandemic has worsened.
All 50 states in the US have reported cases of the deadly virus.
