Desperate dad who hasn’t stopped burping for eight months stumps doctors

A desperate bloke who's been burping constantly for eight months is pleading with doctors for a diagnosis as his frequent belches are "getting louder".

Dad-of-two Michael O-Reilly, 61, let out the first few burps last June after sipping on a brew – but he had no idea what was about to ensue.

That single burp sparked a series of loud, violent belches that have been plaguing Michael for the last eight months, Birmingham Live reports.

The unwelcome interruptions can come as often as every few minutes as Michael, from Erdington, West Midlands, just tries to get through the day.

Michael thinks he may have aerophagia, which is the medical name for excessive and repeated air swallowing.

After the first burp came on a June morning, Michael thought nothing more of it.

But later that day as he played a round of golf with a pal, the belches were still troubling him, and his friend offered him a boiled sweet to curb the noise.

Michael told Birmingham Live: “It really frightens and worries me.

“They are really loud and getting louder. They’re extremely violent now.

“They last about three seconds and then return.”

According to Michael, the burping gets worse when he drinks.

Birmingham Live reports Michael drank a glass of water during the interview, causing an immediate flurry of loud belches.

The former cabbie has researched all possible explanations and has insisted he's not suffering from a stress problem.
