Brutal cartel crucifies two victims and leaves bodies hanging on cross

Two men have been discovered crucified just north of the Mexican capital as the vicious battle between two of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels continues.

The two bodies were found impaled back to back on the same cross, while another corpse was found nearby.

The trio were on a dirt road in the municipality of Morelos, and are one of several harrowing discoveries made in recent weeks.

The spree of horrendous and graphic murders forms part of an ongoing war between two of Mexico’s most powerful and infamous cartels.

Soldiers from the Sinaloa Cartel launched attacks against The Jalisco New Generation Cartel last year, leading to a brutal war between the rivals that has seen dozens killed in a variety of harrowing ways.

The war has since ground on, with there still being no clear end in site to the horrendous violence.

Governor of Zacatecas Alejandro Tello has written to President López Obrador, warning of just how dangerous the situation is becoming.

“With opposing organized crime groups as the protagonists, the fierce fight for the control of territory has placed our state in a grave security crisis,” he said.

Police in the embattled region are finding themselves overwhelmed and outgunned by the fearsome cartels.

In January 2021, nine people were murdered and three others kidnapped on a single day.

A gunfight between the two cartels in the municipality of Valparaíso also left at least 18 people dead, though local media reports suggested that as many as 35 people may have died.
