And there is even more fun in the sun predicted this week as a mini heatwave will push the mercury up to 63F (17C). Temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to stay above average, with forecasters predicting sunny spells for most. They will then dip before rising again into the weekend.

The Met Office’s Sarah Kent said: “It looks as though largely dry conditions are going to prevail. The only day we are likely to see any showers is Wednesday. It’s going to be warm with lovely sunshine.”

Jim Dale, of British Weather Services, added: “There will definitely be some spikes of heat as we go into summer.This summer could be up there with the warmer ones from the past 10 years.”

But sunbathers in Brighton were sent packing from the beach yesterday over fears of an unexploded bomb.

Officers were called to a spot west of Palace Pier at 2.20pm after the alarm was raised by a member of the public.

A bomb disposal team was investigating last night.
