Aurora police seek person of interest in woman’s slaying

Aurora police are searching for a 39-year-old man after a woman was fatally shot Saturday.

Ryan Scott Avery knew the victim and is considered a person of interest in the killing, Aurora police said in a statement. He might have been in Limon, in Lincoln County, Saturday night.

Police believe happened Saturday, although the victim was not found until about 8:30 a.m. Sunday, when officers discovered her body inside a home at 1620 South Granby Street, police said. No one else was in the home at the time.

The woman who died has not been publicly identified.

Police asked the public to be on the lookout for Avery, who was described as white, 5’11’’ and about 155 pounds with brown hair. He is thought to be driving a four-door silver 2008 Lexus with the Colorado license plate BIX-360.

He is considered a person of interest in the woman’s killing, but is also wanted on a warrant for attempted homicide in Elizabeth in a separate case, police said. Elizabeth police did not immediately return a request for more information and the circumstances of that charge were not clear.

Police ask witnesses to call 911 if they see Avery or his vehicle.
