A mother is accused of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and other charges after a Saturday rollover crash killed her 10-year-old son.
Karena Cecil, 27, is being held in the Adams County Detention Facility on charges of vehicular homicide, careless driving causing injury, revoked driving status, DUI, no proof of insurance and two counts of child abuse, according to the Brighton Police Department.
After 7 p.m. Saturday, Brighton police responded to Interstate 76 and Bromley Lane for a single-car rollover crash. Officials determined that alcohol and speed were components of the deadly crash.
Cecil was driving a white sedan, going east on I-76. She lost control of the vehicle, going onto the shoulder and rolling into the westbound lanes of traffic, police say. Cecil and her son were both injured, with her son later dying in the hospital. Two other passengers were also.
